Have you ever stopped at those produce stands you see on the side of the road? You might be surprised what you find! A lot of times the prices can be very reasonable and less than the grocery store! At my favorite stand I can get bananas for $.50/lb (vs. $.69 at the store) and I can get a couple large tomatoes or onions for just $1.00.
Do you shop at your local produce stands? Are the prices higher or lower than the store?

Our local produce stand prices are hit and miss. Some are great and others are absolutely ridiculous. I’m fortunate to have a number of Farmers Markets available.
My favorite Farmers Market is in my backyard. We usually spend about $50 each May (manure, herbs and starter plants) for our garden. We save so much more than that on tomatoes (cherry and Roma), zucchini, cucumber, basil, rosemary and thyme. I dry the herbs and store them. I don’t remember the last time I bought any of those 3 and I’m usually giving some away.

We don’t have many produce stands in our area, so we go to a local farmer’s market. Not only do we find good prices on produce, we can find naturally made foods such as peanut butter, or jams, that are not filled with preservatives for a better price than we can find in the store!

I love buying fresh produce from our local farms. I’ve even taken the little ones to go strawberry picking and peach picking. and, we have a garden full of veggies that we eat and can. I love this time of year!
