I usually suggest to my clients to take some downtime while they are at Wat Disney World. Many of them think I am crazy. Really I am not. There are so many other things to do at Disney World other than the parks that it is nice to take some time an investigate some of them. Going to Walt Disney World is not for the vacationer that wants to lounge by the pool or the beach with a cold drink but going to Disney World and taking some time off is okay. You won’t die and to be perfectly honest you won’t miss that much. Let’s face it you are not going to get everything done no matter how much you push yourself. I have been to Disney World countless times and I still haven’t done everything.
What are some things you can do with your down time? Well for one you can sleep in and rejuvenate. About mid vacation you can really start dragging. If you take a day in the middle that allows for rest, you will get yourself rested and ready to conquer the rest of your vacation which means you ultimately will probably get more done.
Go for a leisurely swim. At moderate resorts or higher the pools have slides and there are hot tubs. Both great for relaxing and having fun. Many resorts now have a water play area also for younger kids. You cannot pool hop at Disney World and visit the pools at other resorts so if a pool and a rest day is your thing choose your resort wisely and make sure you investigate the pool.
Some other things you can do for your rest day are resort hop and go to Disney Springs. Resort hopping is a lot of fun. Not only that but it gives you a chance to check out other resorts and see where you want to stay for your next trip. It is a great time for photo opportunities and maybe even grabbing a meal at the food court of a different resort. Each food court has different offerings so it is a good way to get some variety. Disney Springs has a lot of things to do. It is free to go and walk around and there is always entertainment outside. There is shopping, lots of eating choices, bowling and even an eat in movie theater. The eat in theater is our favorite and we do not have one near where we live. It is expensive but such a nice treat we usually splurge. You don’t have to spend a lot of money though to have fun and relax and walk around at Disney Springs.
These are my suggestions for taking a down day at Disney World. I suggest it so that you can experience more than just the parks and like I said rejuvenate to go back to conquer the parks for the rest of your trip. I highly recommend it.

We usually do a half day off. We have annual pass so park passes don’t matter. One day towards the back half of the trip we wil go to the pool and have a relaxing pool day after a morning in the parks. Then we will do a casual dinner and have an early night.
