Here are some tips for vacations with 4-6 year olds at Walt Disney World.
Resort
Pop Century is my favorite of the value resorts. It is a very family friendly resort (the majority of their guests are families) and the price is extremely reasonable. You don’t have to worry about your children bothering other guests when you stay here.
Art of Animation is just across the lake from Pop Century and it also tailors to families. You can choose from The Little Mermaid Rooms (identical in layout to Pop Century) or one of the family suites. The pools are amazingly themed and when you go under the water in The Big Blue Pool, you can hear music!
Port Orleans Riverside is another great resort for families especially if you are a family of 5. In the Alligator Bayou rooms, there is a fold down bunk bed that all kids will want to sleep on. Establish the rules before you even go in the room to avoid fighting. You can also book The Royal Room which has a princess theme throughout the room. Great for little girls!
The Contemporary’s Garden Wing is a great choice if you want to stay on the Monorail loop. They are the cheapest rooms on the loop and they are located close to the pool. At this resort you will also find Chef Mickey’s, an all american buffet with visits by Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Daisy.
Parks
Magic Kingdom will definitely be a favorite for this age range. Plan to spend at least 2 full days in this park so that you can see and do everything. Animal Kingdom will come in second place as it not only has animals (awesome!) but it also has a huge playground called The Boneyard that your kids might not want to leave.
Epcot offers a number of character meet and greets as well as the Kidcot stations around the World Showcase. The attractions aren’t as plentiful, but touring the countries is a fun experience for adults and children. Let your children be your guide to keep them excited about the World Showcase.
Hollywood Studios is under construction to add more kid friendly and adult appealing attractions. Currently they have Toy Story Mania, Voyage of Little Mermaid, Disney Junior Dance Party!, Frozen Sing Along, Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground and Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage! that will appeal to this age group.
