Do you ever have one of those unexpected bills (or an unexpected amount) that make you want to pull out your hair?
My husband just called from the Tag Office. We had to pay $450 to get the title for his dad’s truck put in our name. Ouch! I didn’t realize it would be so much. But at least it’s behind us now and the truck is ours. Of course I get to look forward to tagging it again next March.

Bruiser, our dog, ate a baby sock last night…. $180 later we had a regurgitated sock and a magnetic sticker with the number to the animal hospital.

Our $425 power bill this past month got us….along with a lot of other things. April has been a bad month for us. we had to get our oven fixed, we found 3 nails in our tire (all in the same one), our kids insurance was cancelled because they didn’t have enough info, but didn’t tell us it was cancelled, and now my hubby has to leave to go clean up the oil spill. This month stinks! :(

My daughter has been going to the doctor every other week for weight checks. Yeah, that adds up.

I live in NH and we always hear that we don’t have taxes. My town hall gets so mad when every year I show up commenting that I have to pay taxes on the cars. It’s always one check to the state and one to the town totally up to over $200 per car. They keep telling me it’s not a tax it’s a registration “fee”. Call it what you want, but it’s a “fee” I have to pay every year just like my taxes….

The picture is just too funny! :)

Tell me about it!! No matter how much I try to save, it seems like Mr. Unexpected Bill always tends to show up!!! It never fails!!
Cambria says
I am right there with you! There is always something that comes up. I’ll feel like I’m doing so good one month and then something just hits you out of the blue. Thanks for sharing this and helping us feel like we’re not alone with these out of the blue bills!!
Leigh says
Well DH is in the hospital for an infection and we were just told he has to stay another night. That’s a huge unexpected bill! Thankfully I have the latptop to pass the time.

I completely understand. My hot water heater brusted yesterday all over my garage. Needless to say a new one is being installed right now. Thank goodness for my wonderful neighbors.

This week alone: vet bill $135, car repair $208, $45 SAT exam for DD! Ouch! Thank goodness I”m using my coupons!

It’s seems like everytime I turn around something comes up, big or small. Things from a sudden growth spurt to a tire blow out. Life likes to smack ya once in a while. Good thing we’re learning all kinds of tips and tricks from you! :)

Doctors bills, house repairs, and car repairs are just a few examples of unexpected and usually expensive bills. Every time one hits, it’s like “oh crap”. But that’s what emergency funds are for, right. But it still hurts. (sigh)

Last month my daughter had to have dental work. It cost us $3100!!! We had to pay everything up front. Now we’re fighting our insurance company to get reimbursed.
Alaina says
The unexpected trips to the ER are the worst! I had getting the bills from the hospital!
Teri says
We had to take our 3 cats to the vet unexpectly within a week (0ne of them didn’t make it, he passed away at the vet’s office). $384…ouch. Unexpected doctor bills are bad too. Without insurance, those can pop up at any time :(

In Illinois, our plate stickers went up, our driver’s license renewal went up and now our town is talking about making everyone buy vehicle stickers for $45!
Jaime says
Can they even do that? It seems like that wouldn’t be legal.
Sarah says
Oh yeah! When I lived in Virginia, most counties had a county sticker. Every year my mom paid something like $45-50 for a county sticker on each of our cars. The color changed each year to make sure that it was easy to identify if you didn’t have the current one. Glad I’m in Tennessee now!!!
Kelly says
Unexpected bills stink! I was so looking forward to the price dropping on our tag renewal this year like it does every year but friends have said they actually increased it substantially this year. Oh great.
Abby says
Just got a bill from my son’s oral surgeon for party insurance didn’t cover. I was nervous when I opened it…thankfully it was only $18!
Susan says
That scares me. I just bought a 2011 Hyundai Sonata and have to buy the tag today. I was figuring no more than $300, but I know it is valued at more than $18,000. Just have to pray it isn’t more.
Susan says
And I am in Birmingham as well so it will probably be high, so all our crooks can use the money LOL!
Dana says
will have to replace all new a/c and heat in our home plus duct work and add a dehumidifier. 1st quote is 12,400.00 almost made me fall off my chair.

OUCH!!!! Bless your heart!

the other day our computer got a bug …grr…not only did we have to pay to get it “debugged” and cleaned, ($130) we then had to go and buy the most updated version of Norton ($80). My biggest pet peeve is paying for things and not “getting” anything for it! That stinks, Krisitn. I am feeling your pain! =)
Jen says
My plug for the mac…costs more upfront, but my mac repair guy has seen 2 viruses on a mac since working for apple and independently over the course of 35 years. The macs tend to outlive the pc, less headaches, no virus protection to pay for every year and again, a bit more up front, but less in the long run.
Haidy says
Sorry for that bill..
Bright side… The car is yours!!!
Terri McClintic says
I hate that and it always seems like it is the vechicles. Well life goes on, and at least you have a little vaca to look foward to :)
Kristin from Couponing to Disney says
I’m not sure. It’s a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado truck. Apparently it’s based on it’s value. It’s worth like 18k. Blah1
Tanz says
we pay 75 a year for a 07 dodge 1500. If we moved one state over it would be around 400..pretty stupid I have to say.
Debi says
That’s a huge ouch! Just put it behind you and relish in the fact that your upcoming trip to Disney is PAID FOR already!!!
Kristin from Couponing to Disney says
Amen Debi!!
RK says
Ouch! Makes you wonder just what the government is doing with our money. They tax us *and* need these outrageous fees? I don’t believe for one second that the money is really needed.
Amanda B says
When we moved 20 miles from Georgia to right inside Florida we had to pay $150 per vehicle just to bring it into the state, plus registration (the fee has since increased FYI). Stinks. So like if you live in Florida near another state and go to purchase a new car, you have to do it within Florida or pay the fine. My dad gave us his trailer to use and offered to let us have the title – instead I just send him the money to register it in his state, while we use it in ours. No way I’m paying that much to bring a tiny trailer in!
Jaime says
I love how you have to pay tax on a car you already bought and paid taxes on when you move to another state. Last time we moved, we sold one of our cars before moving to avoid the hassle to driving it and worrying about it breaking down on the 3 day drive. We were so glad we did after it cost us almost $400 just to register and tag the one car (not to mention the cost of two new driver’s licenses)!
Anna D. says
I did the same thing. I live in AL and the FL tags are a lot cheaper. My FL parents gave us a car and instead of changing it to AL, which would be soooo much more $$$$, we just changed the title in my name and kept the FL address/tags the same. I used to live at the address so it wasn’t a big deal.
Stacia Richerson says
Why did it cost that much? I have never heard of it costing that much….that stinks! I DO NOT like unknown amounts…it always feels like you end up blindsided. Here’s hoping you find a great deal that will save you $450 to even things out! ;0)
Tashena Lynette Gonzales says
Happens all the time.
Pam says
It seems that every month holds something unexpected to try and get us off budget.
Julia says
We had to reregister our car yesterday – $300. I feel your pain.
Shannon says
Isn’t that amazing, how much it costs just to get a tag. We had the same thing happen and like you said just think I get to renew the tag in a year.
