Wondering how to use My Magic+ with Fastpass+ and Magic Bands? This system at Walt Disney World can get very confusing and I am going to try to help you understand how to best use it before your next vacation.
The MagicBand
The MagicBand is issued to each member of your party and is worn on the wrist. Using the RFID technology, the band will hold your park ticket, room key, dining plan, dining reservations, Fastpass + reservations and much more. Instead of carrying a Key to the World card or tickets, you will just need to wear the MagicBand. When you see a Mickey Head receiver, like the ones at the turnstiles or on the credit card machines, you’ll just tap the 2 Mickey Heads together (your band and the machine’s) and it will read the information on the RFID chip. You’ll even be able to charge to your room with the MagicBand (you do set up a PIN at check in that must be entered each time you charge to the room).
Fastpass+
The Fastpass machines with paper tickets have been removed from the theme parks. You no longer visit each attraction to obtain Fastpasses with your park ticket. Instead, you can book them 60 days in advance if you are staying on-site using MyDisneyExperience.com or the My Disney Experience App. If you are staying off-site, you can book your Fastpass+ reservations 30 days in advance. If you didn’t book your Fastpasses before you arrived, you can visit one of the Fastpass+ Kiosks located in the parks (check the Guide Map for exact locations).
Each guest is limited to 3 advanced Fastpass+ per day and the Fastpass+ is only valid in one park. Once you have used the 3 advanced Fastpass+ reservations, you can use the MyDisneyExperience app to book another Fastpass+ for the park you are in or in the park you plan to hop to.
My Disney Experience
MyDisneyExperience.com or the My Disney Experience App (available on iTunes and Android Marketplace) is your go to resource for your Walt Disney World vacation. With this program, you can manage your reservations, reserve and change Fastpass+ selections, check wait times, view park maps, find characters and lots more.
To get started, you will want to create your account on MyDisneyExperience.com. To make this as easy as possible to understand, my friends at DestinationsinFlorida.com have created a video for you walking you through the process:
Next you will need to link your Disney Resort, ticket and package reservations to your My Disney Experience account online. If you have any dining reservations booked you can add these reservations to your My Disney Experience, too. You will need your reservation number for each one. Here is a video on how to add these reservations to your account:
Once you have linked your reservations, you can go ahead and customize the bands for each member of your party and have them sent to your home or resort. If you choose to have them sent to your home, I recommend you order them at least 2 weeks before your arrival date. Here’s a video on how to order the bands:
Next you can book your Fastpass+ reservations for each day of your Walt Disney World vacation. Here is a video on how to book your Fastpass+ using My Disney Experience.
Finally make sure you add the My Disney Experience app to your smart phone using either iTunes or Android Marketplace.

If I get sick of the park I am in can I drop all my fast passes and go to another park and get new fast passes?
Another Q: If I use all 3 of my passes. Can I get another tier 1 pass. I read above that you only get one tier 1 pass a day.
I wish there weren’t any fast passes and everyone just stood in line. The system sucks!
So if we book our 3 fastpasses for the day ahead of time on the website. If we walk to Space Mountain at park opening, can we get another fastpass booked at the kiosk in front of Space mountain, in addition to the 3 prebooked fastpasses?
No you get 1 from the first tier and 2 from the second tier per day – only one park per day – and there are no more kiosks for them -if you don’t do it online, they have lines you stand it to wait to book your fastpasses for that day
But you can still reserve everything via Fastpass+ and can still
Pick up regular Fastpasses at the kiosks?
No more kiosks, you get your 3 per day and that’s it (1 from tier 1 and 2 from tier 2)
My understanding is they regenerate. Once you have used one up, you can set up another fastpass via a kiosk or app.
You can’t even book a fastpass for Toy Story and Rock-n-roller coaster on the same day – they are both category 1’s and you only get 1 category 1 per day – same in other parks – can’t do big thunder and space mountain in the same day or test track and soarin etc.. Hate the new fastpass + but do love the magic bands!!
so if im staying at a disney villa not booked thru disney, can i book fastpass early? how?
So I can’t Fastpass Toy Story Mania in the morning and Space Mountain in the evening? That just seems wrong to me and would make me think twice about buying a hopper pass.
Yes that is correct. :(
