If you are heading to Walt Disney World with food allergies, you are in good hands! Disney goes above and beyond accommodating guest needs. You won’t have to worry what you will eat because they will take great care of you.
When you make a dining reservation either online or over the phone, indicate what type of allergy your family has. Disney accommodates common food allergies including the following:
- Gluten or wheat
- Lactose or milk
- Peanuts and tree nuts
- Shellfish
- Soy
- Fish
- Eggs
- Corn
Before you travel, you can email [email protected] to talk about your specific needs. It is a good idea to let the chefs know ahead of time that you have an allergy so that they have time to make provisions for you.
When you dine at Quick-Service or Table-Service restaurants, you will be provided with a special menu that lists the entrees that are free of your allergen. If necessary, the chef is on hand to discuss the menu with you further to ensure that your needs are met.
When I was nursing Molly Kate, I had to avoid dairy. When we were at Walt Disney World Counter-Service restaurants, I let the cast member at the register know that I had a dairy allergy (that was the absolute easiest way to explain it). She would then hand me the special allergen menu and ask if I would like to speak with a chef to discuss it further (sometimes I did and sometimes I didn’t). She would then take my order and I would wait at the window for it (sometimes they would give me a beeper).
When the entree arrived, it was on a special colored tray and it was usually covered with a plastic cover to ensure it had no cross contamination. I did have to wait 5-10 minutes longer than those without allergies since they specially prepared my food. They actually have a special prep area in the kitchen for those with allergies to ensure there is no chance of cross contamination.
At Table-Service restaurants, I let the waiter know about my dairy allergy. They usually sent the chef out to the table to discuss it with me and let me know which entrees they can make dairy free. Sometimes they even made entrees that were not on the menu. They really go above and beyond!
If you have an allergen or a dietary requirement, don’t hesitate to take a trip to Walt Disney World. They are so very accommodating!
