Just wanted to share a review of our first time staying at a good neighbor resort. We thought we would have more in our party, so we switched our original reservation (All Star Movie) to a good neighbor resort that slept 8. We ended up with only 4, but it was nice having a 2 bed, 2 bath suite with full kitchen and a living room to stretch out in and the cost was the same as a value resort. Switching in the system was a bit nerve wracking. You can’t easily move between a Disney property and good neighbor hotel, so I had to cancel the original trip and rebook the good neighbor resort (it is all still done through Disney).
Since we had paid with Disney GCs, I had to be refunded to the cards I used. The cast member put in a request to combine my 44 gift cards (you read that right) into three large gift cards to rebook the vacation. It took about 14 days for the refunded gift cards, so I was a nervous wreck for two weeks. Meanwhile, Disney added a park planning reservation pass to our package which meant I was able to make park reservations before getting the actual tickets. I had to get our physical tickets at the resort on the day we arrived.
The resort was Sonesta ES Suites in Lake Buena Vista. We were about 10-12 minutes from the parks. It felt a little different being outside of the “Disney bubble” but we liked having more dining options nearby, a pharmacy next door (because someone always gets sick on our trips), and not having to fight for a seat on the bus. We did miss not having the extra 30-minute magic hours, but otherwise, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Plus, the hotel had light breakfast included with an assortment of fruit, yogurt, muffins, granola bars and juice.
