I am so excited for you and your family!! I wish my family was going too. Can’t wait to read more post as your adventure continues. Thanks for taking us along with you! We are planning our next adventure for 2011, I can’t wait!!!
Are you on I-75? If so did you stop at the Florida Welcome Center to get a FREE sample of OJ or grapefruit juice? We stop there every time we go to Florida. It’s tradition. :)
I would have to agree. Unless they are age 10+ they are usually so enamored with the surroundings they don’t even notice people unless they are dressed in costume.

As far as “Gay Week” goes, first, it’s unofficial – Disney doesn’t do anything differently during that week. While it may be awkward for some families to see two people of the same gender holding hands or walking with their arms around each other (many European/Asian heterosexual people visiting Disney often walk hand-in-hand at all times of the year), I think most of the homosexuals that attend “Gay Week” are aware that they are in a family-friendly environment and behave accordingly, much like you or I would not parade our private/bedroom lives at Disney either. Having worked in Disney World during “Gay Week”, I can assure you that it isn’t much different as it’s a crowded time of the year, so it isn’t really too noticeable and I doubt little kids would even comment. If anything, most homosexuals, including the MANY that work in Disney World, love the spirit that surrounds Disney World and help to play along and make the magic more magical.
Hope this helps.

Cafe Risque! Last year, my then 14 year-old was so completely fascinated by Cafe Risque as we drove from NY to FL. He must have asked a million questions that we dodged, then simply said, well if it’s a rest stop, I know what truckers do there. Fearing to ask what he knew, I pretended to be asleep, only to listen to my husband tell him that it’s not the kind of place he would stop with his family. I think my son was disappointed…
does anyone have any advice about avoiding “gay week” while at Disney…a friend of mine will be there that week with their family and dont want their small children to have to be around all that….they have already sunk too much money in it to back out…any advice?

Gay week – each day they go to a specific park. Check the free crowd calendar at touringplans.com and it will tell you which park on which days. However, gay days at Disney are not raunchy. Just crowded at the specific park.
