The famous co-Creator of this map from 1953 is none other than Walt Disney himself. This map aided in getting financial funding to begin Disneyland. Ultimately, leading to the funding of Disneyland by the ABC television network. Which led to the world wide famous mouse we all know today. The catch, Walt Disney had to provide a one hour long weekly broadcast originally called “Disneyland”, in exchange to fund his dream park of the same name.
Gallery co-founder, Mike Van Eaton and others are amazed by the great condition of this vintage map. The bird’s eye approach to his map turned art work was also unique at the time.
The story goes: a Disney employee at the time, Grenade Curran, noticed the map in Walt Disney’s office and asked to have it for a keepsake. Since then, Grenade Curran has had it in his possession at his home and now is bringing it to auction.
This map is projected to make upwards of $1 million at auction. With $750,000 being the low estimate. This unique piece of history is valuable and the largest, earliest map of Disneyland.
The auction will take place at Van Eaton Galleries in Sherman Oaks, California.
