Looking back to 2019, it was a great year for Disney Cruise Line. They won many awards, such as “No. 1 Brand for Customer Service” in Newsweek’s America’s Best Customer Service Awards and “No. 1 Top Large Cruise Line in the World” in Condé Nast Traveler’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards. Disney Cruise Line also made some HUGE announcements, here are our top 3 big announcements From Disney Cruise Line of 2019.
1. Captain Minnie Joined the Fleet
Captain Minnie Mouse made her debut on all Disney Cruise ships starting April 2019. Wearing her captain pant-suit attire, to inspire young girls to consider a career in the maritime industry. Also added was an all new youth activity. It will use STEM skills while enjoying hands-on activities, at Disney’s Oceaneer Lab on all Disney Ships. Captain Minnie Mouse will also engages with children at select Disney Cruise Line’s homeports and ports of call. In addition, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique added a Captain Minnie Mouse makeover. Disney also started a new scholarship program for female cadets that include being able to service aboard a Disney ship for a year!
2. Name of Fifth Disney Ship & Impressive Details
Disney Wish will feature an atrium that is 3-stories tall, inspired by an enchanted fairytale and Rapunzel on the ship’s stern (it is a tradition to adorn back of ship with an iconic character). Disney Wish is scheduled to set sail starting January 2022, with 2 other ships joining its fleet in upcoming years. All 3 new Cruise ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas. Ship will weigh in at approximately 144,000 gross tons. Disney Wish will have 1,250 guest staterooms (a bit larger than Disney Dream & Disney Fantasy)
3. New Disney Island Announced
It was announced a second tropical destination is being added to The Bahamas for Disney Cruise guests in upcoming years. The new destination is named Lighthouse Point and is located on the island of Eleuthera. The purchase of the privately-owned Lighthouse Point was completed early 2019 by Disney Cruise Line (DCL). Disney will be working with local artists for Bahamian culture, mixed with Disney magic. Construction could being as early as 2020, with completion as late as 2022 or 2023. Sustainable building practices will be used, including an open-trestle pier (eliminating need to dredge a ship channel)
