Recently, we posted about 40 Ways SavEars Surprised Their Kids With A Disney Vacation. This post contains many creative and fun ideas to surprise your children with a Disney vacation! However, we never discussed the why or why not of surprising your children with a trip. One of the perks of holding out on telling is for young children it can be hard to understand time, such as just how far away 6 months- a year is. Or simply just because you want to have a big reveal!
Today we are discussing 3 reasons NOT to surprise your kids with a Disney vacation, and why you should tell them about the trip instead.
3 Reasons NOT To Surprise Kids With A Disney Trip (& Tell Them Instead)
1. Surprising children means they are less involved with planning. If your children are old enough to help with planning, planning is part of the fun! Daydreaming about what you will eat and picking your must-ride attractions. For younger children who may be hesitant of certain rides, telling ahead of time means being able to pre-watch YouTube videos of point of views.
2. Having a countdown is part of the fun. Even if the number is 365 days away, the numbers will go down one by one. Getting to “2 digits” or under 100 is a milestone and then seeing it get lower from there! Get creative with your countdown, such as with a paper chain, a countdown chalkboard and more. Or, download a countdown app.
3. Finally, keeping a secret can be hard! If you think there may be a chance the reveal will be spoiled or you will slip, do not put the pressure on yourself. If you are simply just not a good secret keeper than tell the kids, start planning and let the countdown begin!
