Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is found at Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood Studios. This indoor ride-through opened at Disney World on March 4, 2020. Guests can head to this attraction and board a runaway railway! This zany adventure features Engineer Goofy driving the train and is great for all ages.
1. Cast of Characters is The Fab 5
Throughout the attraction you will encounter classic cartoon Disney characters including: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto! These 5 Disney characters are known as the “Fab 5” since they were all featured regularly in classic Disney cartoons. We also see Daisy Duck!
2. First Attraction Ride-Through To Star Mickey & Friends
While this may surprise some, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the first attraction (at any Disney park) to star Mickey Mouse and his friends! Until now, the main Mouse himself did not have a ride-through in any Disney park worldwide. Also it is appropriate that Mickey’s first ride-through features a train for the ride vehicle, as Walt Disney himself was self-proclaimed in love with trains.
3. Step Inside the Cartoon World with 2 1/2 D Technology
When you walk through the Chinese Theatre, guests are walking through a magic portal to the cartoon world. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway uses state-of-the-art technologies and dazzling visual effects to transform the cartoon world into an incredible and immersive multidimensional experience. Disney named the technology for this attraction, 2 1/2-D, (as opposed to 3D), no 3D glasses are needed.
4. Perfect Picnic Cartoon Short
This attraction features an original story and an original theme song. The all-new cartoon short featured in this attraction is named, “Perfect Picnic”. This story follows Mickey and Minnie as they drive to their picnic, with the train (you) following behind. What comes next, is an unexpected adventure. While developing the rides new cartoon short, Disney Imagineers actually watched every cartoon short from the recent award winning “Mickey Mouse” series cartoons.
5. Hidden Mickeys
One of the most fascinating facts about this attraction is that it has the most Hidden Mickeys in any Disney attraction, worldwide! One of my favorite Hidden Mickeys in the attraction are the Mickey Mouse head Fireworks at the end of the ride! This attraction also features many nods to the past. One of these hidden gems is found within a newspaper headline, “Oswald Wins!”. This honors Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who was created by Walt Disney prior to Mickey Mouse.
If you have spotted Hidden Mickeys on this ride, let us know in the comments.
