Hello, Couponing to Disney readers! I hope you’ve been enjoying my FAQs each week. I absolutely LOVE writing them for you, and feel free to reply in the comments here or on Facebook with your suggestions, too. So far we’ve covered Split Stays and Resorts, Character Meals, Disney with Young Children, Holiday Celebrations at Walt Disney World, and Saving Money on Your Walt Disney World Vacation. As you may know, I work with Destinations in Florida as a Vacation Specialist. I love helping families create getaways to fit their lifestyle and budget. Today I’d like to share with you some FAQs about special activities for teenagers at Walt Disney World.
FAQ #1 Since most Disney tours require you to be sixteen or older, what is a fun alternative for my 14 year old?
True, many of Disney’s tours have an age requirement of 16. However, that doesn’t mean that your younger teenagers have to miss out on a special tour. Magic Kingdom offers a Walt Disney: Marceline to Magic Tour. This tour shares little know facts about Walt himself, his creative ideas, and how much of what we know as Walt Disney World came to be. Another great option is the Behind the Seeds Tour at EPCOT. This takes you into the Living with the Land attraction, and gives you a behind the scenes look at how Walt Disney World uses natural resources to grow much of the produce and fresh foods found on Disney property.
FAQ#2 I want to do something special for my 15 year old daughter while her younger sister is enjoying Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Thoughts?
While your younger princess is enjoying the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Downtown Disney, there are plenty of fun things to let your teenager enjoy. Perhaps a few rounds of bowling at Splitsville, the new bowling experience to open at Downtown Disney. Also, taking a flight over Downtown Disney on Characters of Flight might be something she’d enjoy. Since you are at Downtown Disney, a gift card and some shopping might be just the ticket, too!
FAQ #3 What dining experience would you recommend for teenagers?
Even though your teenager might be a kid at heart, they might feel a little “kiddish” at a character meal. Teppan Edo in Japan at EPCOT’s World Showcase is an excellent choice when dining with teenagers. The hibachi style cooking and fun atmosphere will be something everyone in your family will enjoy. Also, Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge is a rip roaring good time, with the entertaining wait staff and lots of laughs!
FAQ#4 What souvenirs would you suggest for my 14 year old son?
Since your 14 year old might feel too old for an autograph book and mouse ears, having an alternative souvenir up your sleeve is a good idea. Vinylmation is fun for younger teens to collect, and some might even enjoy pin trading still. There are several locations at Downtown Disney, as well as Disney’s Hollywood Studios, that sell lithographs and other art work by imagineers. These might appeal to your teenager as well.
FAQ #5 Do you have any suggestions for celebrating my daughter’s 16th birthday at Walt Disney World?
Sixteenth birthdays are special, especially when you get to celebrate them at Walt Disney World! The first thing that comes to mind is a package from Senses Spa at the Grand Floridian Resort and Day Spa. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, so how about a mother/daughter pedicure? Or get facials together. Plan to attend the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party for prime viewing of Happily Ever After and some sweet treats to celebrate. Or, keep it simple and take her to Beaches and Cream for ice cream and to watch a movie on the beach.
