Hello, Couponing to Disney readers! I hope you’ve been enjoying my FAQs each week. I absolutely LOVE writing them for you, and feel free to reply in the comments here or on Facebook with your suggestions, too. So far we’ve covered Split Stays and Resorts, Character Meals, Disney with Young Children, and Holiday Celebrations at Walt Disney World. As you may know, I work with Destinations in Florida as a Vacation Specialist. I love helping families create getaways to fit their lifestyle and budget. Disney on a budget? Of course! It can be done! So, today I am going to share with you some FAQs for enjoying Walt Disney World, having some magical experiences, and watching your pennies at the same time!
FAQ About Walt Disney World Vacations
FAQ #1: Where can my child get a “makeover”, without going to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique?
The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is an extremely magical experience for every little princess. However, if it’s not in your budget-time or money-there are a few alternatives. First, you could visit the Harmony Barber Shop located on Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom. Here, your child can get a haircut, colored hair gel, and even “pixie dust” sparkles in their hair. Another alternative is the Empress Package at the Pirates’ League. Your little empress will get make up, a face gem, nail polish, lip gloss, and lots of pirate extras. These two options are great! Don’t underestimate the idea of buying some glitter hair spray, taking along your own princess dress, and creating some Fairy Godmother magic of your own before heading out to the princess breakfast!
FAQ #2: What is the best way to carry around food in the parks?
Disney Parks are wonderful, in that they allow you to bring food into the parks and carry it with you all day. Awesome way to save some money! I suggest packing some water bottles and snacks in a small backpack cooler. Another great option is a small, soft sided cooler that will fit under your stroller. Remember, Disney kiosks and quick service locations will give you free ice water. Bring along some Crystal Light, Mio, or Kool aid individual packets to add to the water and it’ll taste better.
FAQ #3: We aren’t going to the parks one day. What are some FREE activities we can enjoy?
Take your resort bus over to the Magic Kingdom. From there, get on the monorail. Ride it to the resorts in the Magic Kingdom area, and enjoy their theming, as well as the beaches. You can also transfer at the Transportation and Ticket Center and take a spin on the monorail around EPCOT. Another suggestion is to visit the Fort Wilderness Campground. They host a Chip and Dale Campfire Singalong most nights, which is free. You can even bring your own ingredients for s’mores! Downtown Disney is another great free option. There are so many fun places to pose for pictures down there, or take the water taxi over to the Port Orleans Resorts to do a little exploring.
FAQ #4: How do we maximize our food budget in the Disney Parks if we aren’t on the Disney Dining Plan?
While the Disney Dining Plan is a wonderful way to eat at many of the restaurants on Disney property, it’s not for everyone. Many people choose to pay out of pocket for meals, in hopes of saving some money. One way to do so is to share your meals or snacks at quick service locations. Many portions of food on Disney property are very generous. Our family of five easily ate from two adult meals at many quick service locations during our last visit when we weren’t on the Disney Dining Plan. Visit your character meal locations during breakfast and lunch times. Often, these meals are less expensive in comparison to dinner. You still get the character interaction, but you’ll save some money if you dine at breakfast or lunch instead of dinner.
FAQ #5: What special discounts does Walt Disney World offer outside of their “special offers” on their website?
Walt Disney World offers special discounts to several groups of people. Active and retired military members, teachers, Disney Visa card holders, and Florida Residents are often eligible for discounts. Your travel agent can help you determine what you qualify for and what is best for your family.
