I’ve decided to implement a “No Spend February”. Lately I’ve gotten slack about taking care of my dollars- I could blame that sweet, sweet clearance we keep finding, but I think it’s more likely I’ve never corrected course from the frenzy of all the deals leading up to Christmas. Piddling money away is a big source of concern- what’s that saying…penny smart, dollar stupid? I’m saving bits and pieces here and there, working surveys and apps, even picking up change off the streets- only to piddle it away on junk. Not very smart.
My plan is no thoughtless spending. If we need groceries? We’ll buy groceries- but no eating out. If we need household supplies? I’ll buy them…but that doesn’t include wants, just needs. No running off to check out this sale or that sale, or buying this thing that is cute but is in no way useful or necessary. This isn’t as much about saving money as resetting my mindset- getting back into really considering what I’m buying and why, instead of just throwing it in the cart.
This money actually isn’t part of my fund, which is why you don’t see budget overages show up in my fund report. This money goes into our savings. We LOVE vacations and we love Disney, but I think it’s important to continue to build your savings, pay off debt, create your emergency fund- wherever you are in your financial journey, remember to prepare for your future as well.
Erin is on discount watch for my trip. She got a good tip from a Disneyland Cast Member about when to expect any potential discounts, so my fingers are crossed there!
This week in savings, Blood Connection was offering $20 prepaid Visas to give blood! The credit on that one goes to Tim as he took advantage of the opportunity offered at his job. I picked Dabbl back up after a hiatus. I’ve been pretty pleased with it- I earned $5 in the week and I’m well on my way to another $5 already, with casual use (like running the ads while watching tv, or cooking dinner).
