My husband loves Rainforest Cafe. We eat there every trip!
This is one our families favorite places to eat!
We LOVE the Rainforest Cafe. We were sad when the one near us closed so we had to make the trip when in Disney and it was GREAT!!! If they have the special on the lobster mac and cheese TRY IT!!!! It was divine and is on our ADR list for summer 2013!!!
My husband and I ate here about 6 years ago during our honeymoon trip to Disney and we had a good experience. We got seated right next to a fish tank which was awesome, and we weren’t very close to any other tables, perhaps because it was only 2 of us. I had the plant burger and I think my husband had the blackened salmon. Both were delicious. Our waitress was awesome, she knew it was our honeymoon and sneaked us a chocolate brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to share for dessert. I ordered a drink where you get to keep the glass and rather than keep the glass (because it wasn’t for the Orlando Rainforest Cafe) she made sure I got a glass for the Orlando restaurant. All in all it was a great experience. It wasn’t too loud, we thought the effects were awesome because you really felt a part of the Disney magic in there.
We go to Disney just about every year, and I always like to try different resturants each time. This one has to be the worst! It was dirty, dirty, dirty! The tables are so close together, you feel like you are eating family style. The food was expensive and cold. The next year we did T-Rex and it was AWESOME. Great Food, Atmosphere, and now its included in the Dining Plan!
We love the Rain forest Cafe. We ate at the one in Animal Kingdom. We have never ate dinner there but Breakfest was great. The food was awesome and the service was also good. My kids love the animals and the thunderstorm and often tell people that they ate at the rainforest while in disney.
We love Rainforest Cafe’! We have never been to the one at DTD but often go to the one at AK. Atmosphere is wonderful! One thing we have learned is that most lunch/dinner meals can be shared. The burgers are huge.
Also remember that Rainforest/Landry gift cards are among the rewards on MyPoints. I have gotten a few from them.
My Husband and I really enjoy Rainforest Cafe & T-Rex Cafe. Of course it is expensive. You are paying for the atmosphere. That said – you can easily split most of their entrees and appetizers making it cheaper than you think.
Also, if you join for FREE Landry’s Select Club you can dine at:

Hope this helps!! :-)
It’s late – and I just realized in my post above, I said the archeological dig site is at RAINFOREST Cafe. Well, that wouldn’t make much sense I guess, if digging for dinosaur bones. It is actually at T-Rex Cafe. Sorry about that!
I am just as big a Disney fan as the author of this great site, so this is probably going to be kind of a long post.
We love, love, love The Rain Forest Cafe at Downtown Disney -for the fun visual effects, the jungle animals, the thunderstorm every 20 minutes, the aquarium, and yes, even the food, most of the time. It CAN be overstimulating for some kids, especially if they don’t like thunderstorms, but many kids love it.
I have some tips and a caveat or two.
First of all, if you call the WDW dining reservation number you often cannot get a reservation during peak nights, but if you call Rain Forest Cafe directly, you CAN get a reservation! I’ve done this at least three times.
Last year, you could go to the Rain Forest Cafe website and print off a certificate (think Chuck E. Cheese) for good behavior, reading, etc., and use it to get a 99 cent kids meal. Alas, it looks like they don’t have this promotion anymore, but on the Kids Menu online, they DO have a coupon for 15 percent off merchandise good until 12/31/2012. http://www.rainforestcafe.com/pdf/menus/kidsMenu.pdf
It looks like Landry’s restaurant group now has a rewards program so if you have any Landry’s owned restaurants in your area you might want to check it out to see if it (with its $25 enrollment fee) would help you with any savings at Rain Forest Cafe (or related T-Rex Cafe in Downtown Disney).
We usually haven’t purchased the Disney Dining Plan, so one strategy we have is to Know Before We Go: Look at the menu and have an idea of prices and the food we want to order before we go.
Another tip is to simply go for dessert if you want the experience and not the cost. A chocolate volcano (with a sparkler in it) feeds 2-4 and is about $13.99. Consider not going at a peak time, however, if you are going to do this.
Check out another great site, Allears.net for recent menu descriptions with prices (as the menu on the RFC website doesn’t have prices). http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_rfc.htm
Here’s the caveat: One year we had taken advantage of the $500 gift card for booking a moderate resort (not a current Disney promotion) and we had great luck using it everywhere until we got to Rain Forest Cafe. When my husband looked at the receipt when we got it back, they had taken off the correct amount for our meal, but the “remaining balance” had mysteriously decreased by $10. We discussed it with our server and then the manager, who would not do anything for us about this, even when I used my cell phone in his presence to call the gift card customer sevice number and was told that Rain Forest SHOULD fix the problem. I had to take care of it after I got back from my trip and it required phone calls and faxing. I would hate to think that this is some kind of scam they had going on there but the question did cross my mind, especially when the manager wouldn’t fix the problem (outrageous!). So my recommendation would be to NOT use a gift card there if possible, and hopefully it was just an innocent mistake.
Apart from that, our visits to RFC have been positive and fun. It is not just a restaurant, it is an EXPERIENCE.
One last fun and free thing for kids to do at RainForest Cafe is play in the little archeological dig site they have outside of their gift shop, and if you want to spend a little $, you can also buy an inexpensive kit where they can pan for gems
I have a word to say about T Rex Cafe also. They actually have a Build-A-Dino (owned by Build A Bear) and as of our trip last year, they honored the “Stuff For Bears” cards and let you use Build A Bear gift cards to build your dino.
We like it here. Fun place and I really thought the food was good.
Totally not worth it.
I ate their back in the day.
Expensive & the food is bland.
Fun for kids tho.
Fun place, good atmosphere…a little expensive but what you would expect for a Disney dining area. Also may be a little loud, but it is just part of the atmosphere. I recommend trying it at least once! The periodic “thunderstorms” are also a fun experience!
