Disney’s Animal Kingdom has some exciting news to share with you all!
Recently, a white rhinoceros was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park and its a boy! Mom, Kendi and baby are doing well backstage bonding for the first several weeks of the little ones life prior to joining the herd. The little one, at up to 140lbs at birth, was nursing, standing and walking within the first hour of life, simply amazing.
Kendi, mom and Dugan, dad were bred through the Species Survival Plans (SSPs) which breeds and oversees endangered species. With a near-threatened statues, white Rhinos are an endangered species. Interesting fact about mom Kendi, she was born at Animal Kingdom in 1999 and she was the very first born rhino at the park!

That’s not all the exciting news, as two other Rhinos are pregnant at the park as well! Mom Jao has a due date of Fall 2021, and mom Lola has an estimated due date of Fall-Winter 2021. Interestingly, Rhinos have a longer gestation period than us humans, at 16-18 months per pregnancy!
