Hello Couponing to Disney readers! I’m Carrie, vacation specialist with Destinations in Florida, an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner, and I visit you each week here on Couponing to Disney to answer some Disney FAQs. I love hanging out on Couponing to Disney every week with you, answering questions about the Happiest Place on Earth! Disney Cruise Line is the top rated cruise line for families and is becoming widely popular amongst Disney fans! But can you save money on a Disney Cruise? Yes! Today, I’m going to share some frequently asked questions about saving money on Disney Cruise Line.
Does Disney Cruise Line offer last minute specials?
It is very rare for Disney Cruise Line to offer a “last minute” booking special. Actually, the best way to get the best fare on your Disney Cruise is to book it as far in advance as you possibly can. Disney Cruise Line only requires 20% of your cruise fare as a deposit, and your final payment isn’t due until 75 days before you sail. This really helps spread the payments out over a long period of time.
What is an onboard credit and how do I get one?
An onboard credit can be used toward excursions, spa treatments, souvenirs, etc onboard the Disney Cruise ship. Any unused credits will be refunded back to the credit card that was used for purchasing the credits. If you book your Disney Cruise with and make all payments including the final payment with your Disney Visa, Chase will give you a $50 onboard credit. As a courtesy to Couponing to Disney readers, I offer an onboard credit as well. So combining those two, you can have some extra magical fun aboard Disney Cruise Line!
Can I use Disney gift cards to pay for my Disney Cruise?
Absolutely! Think of it as paying your Disney Cruise in cash. You pick up a few gift cards here and there at the store when you are out shopping and make payments on your trip with them. Perhaps you’ll even earn gas discounts or credit card points by purchasing the gift cards.
When is the least expensive time to cruise?
Cruise fares vary so much during the year. If you can cruise in January or February, that is really the best time. If you need to cruise during the summer, August is usually your least expensive option.
Are certain staterooms less than others?
Yes. If you want the least expensive stateroom option, then you’ll want to book an Inside Stateroom. These do not offer any views of the ocean, and are great for first time cruisers.

Any tips for traveling with children with autism? We are thinking of booking our first cruise in May of 2015. Not sure though how our son will do? Any tips/tricks would be appreciated!
