Walmart Grocery Pick-Up. I was resistant at first, I’m not even going to lie about it. I am that person who digs through the potatoes to get the perfect ones. I touch every tomato, giving it a 10 point inspection before I declare it fit for my produce bag. Don’t even get me started on how hard I eyeball the meat section. I’m terribly picky in what I buy, so ceding control to a stranger was not my jam.
But there was a $10/$50 first order coupon, and while I’m picky, I’m also cheap. So I thought hey… I’ll ease myself into this. I mean, they can’t possibly mess up canned goods and bread, right? It’s a free service, so there was no cost to at least place a pantry items order, and I’d save a few bucks. So I went for it!
And they didn’t mess it up- because of course they didn’t, how could they? I picked what I wanted to buy from the comfort of my home and they filled the order. I was so pleased. Even better- because they were out of one of the store brand items I purchased, they substituted the name brand…for the same price as the store brand! I started using grocery pick-up more and more, though I still hadn’t ventured too far outside of that comfort zone of ordering dry goods. Just call me Safe-Shopper Kristen. Then came the day. I needed more chicken. Did I dare? I mean, it would be so much nicer to get everything in one place, rather than have to go pick it up myself…awww shoot, let’s just do this.
So we did this. And it was good. The chicken looked great, the produce was fresh and I was so pleased. This was a game changer for me, guys. I once saw a meme that said “Adulthood is putting back the pack of $11.17 chicken because you saw a pack for $11.04” and I feel that in my soul. Now I don’t have to worry about it. Thirteen cents be darned, I’m a wild woman, living that fancy life where someone else picks out my groceries and brings them out to the car for me.
It hasn’t been all roses and beautiful produce though. I got some romaine recently that had no green on it. That’s not Walmart’s fault, they didn’t harvest and package it, but it definitely wasn’t acceptable quality lettuce. Thankfully it’s so easy to do a return. I simply jumped on my app, let them know there was a problem and boom. Refund processed- and I didn’t even have to go back to the store!
Now, let’s talk brass tacks. There is a $30 minimum purchase, but it’s grocery shopping- I’m gonna hit $30, no thinking about it. The great part is because I’m not going into the store, I’m not looking at all the other things that find their way into my cart- the impulse buys, the “I wants”, the “let’s go take a look at clearance…” so I’m saving money. No walking in with a list for $40 worth of groceries and coming out with $100 worth of goodies…and still leaving something on my “must have” list behind!
If there was one problem with grocery pick-up, it was that it wasn’t compatible with Ibotta. Oh my gosh, if I had a dime for every time someone asked if we could use Ibotta with the Walmart Grocery Pick-Up, I could go to Disney and stay for a month! Then suddenly, a bright spot in the midst of dark days appears…. that’s right, when the world fell apart and getting a grocery pick up time scheduled required luck and staying up until midnight, Ibotta stepped up and said “Hey guys, link your Walmart Grocery account. We’re going to allow you to earn cashback this way.”
I can’t tell you how much of a game changer this has been for me! I can make my bonus scenarios from the comfort of my home, knowing instantly if something is out of stock. I can make the best scenarios to hit bonuses without people crowding around me, or standing in the store listening to my kiddo whine. It’s so much easier!
I’m also going to let you in on a little secret that may or may not help you…Walmart Grocery Pick-Up isn’t just for groceries. You can buy spray paint, dishes, toys- so much beyond just the general grocery store type items.
So to recap:
You can get a $10/$50 first order coupon– $10 for your fund with no effort!
