Each person’s definition is scary, but there are a few rides that have a scary backstory. Here are the best scary rides at Walt Disney World:
1. The Haunted Mansion – Board a Doombuggy (sounds terrifying just in itself) for a ride through a mansion that is occupied by 999 happy haunts. Halfway through the ride the ghosts push you out of the attic and you become a ghost yourself. When you come back to the human world at the end, the ghosts try to hitchhike home with you.
2. Tower of Terror – In 1939, 5 people disappeared from The Hollywood Tower Hotel. The hotel has finally reopened and you are invited on a tour including a ride in the infamous elevator. Will you make it back to the real world or go the way of the 5 before you?
3. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – The mountain spirits are angry that miners have been digging into their home. They are leashing havoc on the mining company and the town that is located at the base of the mountain. Take a ride on a speeding mine car and go right through the abandoned mine shaft.
4. Expedition Everest – Take a tour of the mountain but be warned. There is a Yeti on the lose and he is not happy with your company. Will you make it back safely? You might be unsure of that as you plummet backwards and eventually down an 80 foot drop.
5. Pirates of the Caribbean – Embark on a voyage through the 1700’s when Pirates ruled the seas. Duck your head as cannons fire around you.

I would like to nominate Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom for your scary ride list – we rode it for the first time and I think I kept my eyes closed for the majority of it. The kid sitting behind us (maybe 6 or 7 years old) was screaming and crying the whole time. Surprisingly scary!
