What would everyone recommend for a large group of 20 adults & kids? Budget friendly, not sure if staying in separte rooms or rent a large house/villa would be better, more economical? Or if anything that large is abalone on Disney property, we usually the dining plan too.
Last time we stayed at the Alligator Bayou rooms at POR. My kids 7&5 at the time, loved the pull down bed. We had to have them take turns sleeping on it. It’s definitely a bed for a small child. This time we are going to try out the rooms for 5 at The Caribbean Beach Resort. We have stayed at The Art of Animation with both of my parents. At the time we went the rooms were new, and the pull down bed that also turns into a table was pretty comfortable. We love that they have 2 bathrooms, and my boys liked the pull out couch with their own tv.
We just came back from staying at Port Orleans Riverside and we LOVED it. Our kids are 11, 7 & 5. The 7 & 5 yr old took turns sleeping on the murphy bed which they thought was a real treat. The rooms are located in the Alligator bayou and are close to the main building and bus stops. Will be staying there again next year!
Bay Lake Towers (rented DVC points) is awesome for a family of 5. We did this a few years ago. We bought an RV 2 years ago and tried Fort Wilderness last year and LOVED it. My mom and dad rented an RV and were able to get the spot right next to us – walking distance to the boat to MK!
We are a family of 7. Our kids were 11,10,7,4,and 4. The last time we stayed there we booked connecting rooms in the Toy Story section at the All Star Movie resort. One of the rooms smelled like vomit. The staff didn’t want to move us. When they finally agreed, we were told that there were no connecting rooms available. They gave us 2 separate rooms that weren’t even next to each other in the dalmatian buildings. It was a really bad experience. We will never stay at The All Star resorts again.
•Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
It saved us $50+ a night on a party of 5, vs. Port Orleans
Busier than Port Orleans, but nice, close, and reasonable for a tight budget.
We stayed at the All star movie resort with our family of 7.We got two connecting rooms with two double beds in each.We had plenty of room[my kids were 16,13,13,10 and 9 years old at the time]We also bought the meal plan and I highly suggest it as the reciepts from our meals showed us that we did the right thing. It would be nice to have a seperate bedroom for my husband and I but it wasn’t in the budget and it was fine with the ages of my kids then.
Our family of six stayed in adjoining rooms at Pop Century. Three of us in each room. It worked out great because we had plenty of space and 2 bathrooms. We loved it!
We stayed at the Pop in 2010 (son was in pack and play), Beach Club in 2012 and Yacht Club in 2014 (he slept on the daybed). I found the 2 queen beds and the daybed was sufficient for smaller kids (they were 13, 8 and 5 in 2014) however, once they get older, I think it will be more cramped. I think the next time we go, I am going to get 2 connecting rooms so everyone has more space.
No one mentioned Caribbean Beach, the refurbished rooms sleep 5 as well with two queen beds and a cool fold down twin bed.
Our party of 9 stayed at the Treehouse Villas in Saratoga Springs Resort. The villa itself was amazing and very very (… um, did I mention very?) SECLUDED! If you dont mind walking, then its great! There was a boat dock that took you directly to dwontown disney. Otherwise you have to catch a bus that takes you an a couple minute ride to Saratogas main lobby, then from there you can catch another bus to the parks. There is a full kitchen and laundry right in the villa, detergent included! We went with my parents and our 5 kids… I am just noting the seclusion from everywhere else because my mom had a hard time keeping up. Other wise, a younger, fit and active family would love it. It sits among pine trees and there are frogs everywhere too!
Our family of 4 & my mom are staying at the Beach Club Villas. We are arriving on December 5th! We can’t wait,so excited!
Our family of 5 always stays at Port Orleans Riverside. We take an air mattress and put it on top of the trundle bed to make it a little more comfortable.
We have stayed at Bay Lake Towers in a one- and two-bedroom units and highly recommend it! :) The location can’t be beat and having in-room laundry facilities with two little ones is PRICELESS!
We stayed in a 1 bedroom villa at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We had our own room with a king sized bed and two kids slept on pull out sofa and 1 on fold out chair. It had a full kitchen which saved us on food bill as well. We had a view of the savannah so we could drink coffee while watching animals graze. Kids loved it as did we but is a very pricey room. If it is in your budget then I highly recommend you give it a try and I can almost guarantee you won’t regret it. :)
We also stay at the Animal Kingdom – last year we stayed at Jambo House and this year at Kidani Village. Also, if you stay in a 1 bedroom those have 2 full bathrooms in the rooms – very nice not to have to share a bathroom with my 3 girls!!!!
When we travel to Disney with larger parties, we stay at Saratoga Springs. That hotel is larger and more spread out than most we stay at. Plus, it seems like a lot of other larger parties stay there too, because at the bus stop there is always another large group! One time, there were 3 large parties, so we completly filled the entire bus, and instead of stopping at the rest of the stations, we got to go right to the park!
You can have up to ten people at campground. There is a camp world only a few miles away from Disney where you can rent a rv. We have our own but I have heard that they do special deal on rv rent at certain times of year.
Watch the deals. We had originally reserved two rooms at one of the value hotels but then my mom saw a deal on the Disney site for 30% off select villas. Now we’re going to stay in a villa that’s 1300 sq. ft. for $50 less than what we would have paid for the two value rooms and we’re going to have a ton more space. We’re so excited! We leave in less than two weeks!
Does anyone know where a party of 8 can stay near Disneyland? We are in California and need accomodations near Disneyland for next spring. It seems even tougher to find something out here.
We have had a hard time finding DisneyHotels the sleep more the 5 at the Disneyland Resort. If you haven’t found a good one yet we like Park Vue Inn. They have suits with two rooms (four beds) or ones with kitchens and livingrooms. They are right across form the entrance. It took us 5 mins to walk to the gates. Other hotels will say they are in walking distance but can take up to 15 min and when your tired at night that’s a long walk. They have pretty fair rates, comfortable beds, and the day you check out if your going to the park again they will usally let you keep your car parked in their lot!
I read a rumor that after the refurbs at Alligator Bayou they will no longer have trundles. I have also been advised to ask for CONNECTING rooms not ADJOINING if I get two values since adjoining rooms will be side by side but connecting rooms actually have a connecting interior door.
My family of 6 makes couponing to Disney very important :)
If you stay at the Boardwalkon concierge level they have a room called the deluxe room that can sleep 7. We actually reserved one of those for one of our trips but when we got there we were upgraded to the Pesedential Suite. I love Disney magic!
We REALLY love the cabins at Ft Wilderness. Not only do you have an awesome FULL sized kitchen, you have a BBQ grill too. We loved the fact that we could pull our car up directly in front of our cabin. We like to drive to the parks and unloading sleeping kids after a long day at the park is much easier if you don’t have to walk a mile to get to a hotel room
Unloading sleeping kids into the cabins vs walking to a hotel room is the #1 reason we chose booking in the cabins for our trip this Sept! Its worth a little extra cost to *hopefully* get a 10 month old, 2 yr old and 4 yr old (along with an 8 and 11 yr old) all into the cabins still asleep.
We had 5 on our trip. Two teenage girls and one teenage boy along with me and hubby. We stayed at Shades of Green in their family suite. It had a seperate bedroom with bathroom. In the main room there was 2 pull out sofas and a murphy bed, so the 3 kids each had their own bed. Also another full bathroom. Plenty of room for all of us at a cost comparable to 2 rooms at a moderate resort. Plus we were able to keep track of the kids better than what 2 seperate rooms would have allowed us. Sooooo much room for all of us, would highly recommend it!
We went to the DVC presentation the last time we were there. If you have enough money to rent the required amount of points from a member, or to become a member yourself, DVC has villas that will sleep up to 12. I know one of them is at Animal Kingdom Lodge, and there is another at Bay Lake Tower, but I don’t remember where the rest are.
And the new Animation Suites were about $550 more than a suite at All Star Music
I was just pricing options for my family of 5 tonight! From what I found, two rooms at All Star Music saved about $250 for our stay vs. A family suite there.Anyone know how young your kids have to be in order to be gaunranteed connecting rooms?
Our youngest was 8 when we had connecting rooms, but at the booking, they will reserve it for connecting rooms at the value resorts.
Heahter, I know with my experience it does not matter on the age of the children. Mine range from 10 – 16. Disney if really good at accommodating everyone. I hope this helps.
Teresa
My youngest was 5 at the time. They noted adjoining rooms when I booked.
We are staying at the Polynesian in October with 5 people. Our family’s first Disney trip, and we are so excited!!
Many deluxe resorts sleep 5 as well. Yacht, Beach, Boardwalk, the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian all do. :0)
We stayed at All Star Music (Hubby, me and 3 kiddos). We had 2 rooms (adjoining- of course). One room had a king sized bed, the other room had 2 queen sized beds, I think. We had plenty of room and it was cheaper (and a lot more comfortable) than what my in-laws paid for their family suite in the same resort. The “family suite” had one bedroom and a living room The living room had a chair and a couch that each folded out into a bed. The only plus side to the suite was the kitchenette. But we had the dining package so we didn’t need it anyway.
We stayed at Riverside in Dec 09. At the time it was my husband, myself our 7 year old twins and our 3 year old. The trundle worked fine for one of the kids but would never work for an adult. The room is no different in size than a regular moderate room just has the trundle which is really just a pallet on wheels. It was fine for us at the time. We actually bought DVC on this trip because of the limited options for families of 5 or more. Love it!
DVC properties provide lots of options for 5 or more in a party.
If you are not a member, you can rent from members.
We stayed at Saratoga Springs Treehouses with 6 with room for 2-3 more sleeping.
Old Key West 2 bedroom can sleep 8-9 with lots of room. We will be staying there
for Christmas.
Check into DVC rental sites for many other options.
All the DVC properties 1 bedroom & up in size have a full
kitchen, washer/dryer, tvs in bedrooms & living room with DVD, dining areas.
This saves on food & on packing for flights!
We stayed in an Riverside Alligator Bayou room with a trundle bed. My 9 year at the time slept on the trundle. It is more narrow than a single bed, but she did not seem to mind it. One problem, if you leave the bed out while you are in the room, there is a tripping hazard and it really hurts! I have to say that this room seems like the best value to me for a family of 5. A family of six would do better in two values or a value suite (or a cabin at Fort Wilderness if you want to pay more),
We have stayed at Riverside with 3 kids age 9,9,&5. It works and is the cheapest option and you get a fridge. One of the kids has to be willing to sleep on the pull our mattress that sits very close to the floor. Mine are not liking that much now. The other options are more than twice POR on a discount time. Even the new animation resort will be expensive. I wish there were cheaper options!!
My family stayed at the Fort Wilderness Cabins with 6 adults. They were great! We looked into all the options you listed above, but went with the cabins because of the full kitchen (they even do your dishes for you!). I bought all our food for the whole trip and cooked a bunch of meals before we left for all under $140 (for a week). We would have spent that much in a day if we were eating in the parks. It worked out perfectly and I think we’ll definitely stay there again if we have more than 4 people.
My parents usually go with us and we can split up the kids. Next visit they won’t be going so we will have a party of 5. Thanks for providing this info. I’m kind of excited about the new Animation resort. Which of your options do you think is the best value? We wouldn’t use a kitchen.
Shannan, we have stayed at the All Star Music Family Suite with 5. My three kids, ages 15, 13, 10 at the time loved it and did fine on the pull out sofa, fold out chair, and fold out ottoman. The kids liked having their own TV and me and my husband enjoyed having our own room. The small refrigerator and microwave worked out well for us and we had two bathrooms. It is more expensive than two value rooms, but we felt more “together” in the suite and liked the kutchenette. Port Orleans is cheaper but rooms are small for five and the trundle is really only good for a small child. We’ve also stayed at the Polynesian and Contemporary that sleep five, but much more expensive.
the past 2 visits we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside and we loved it! My kids loved sleeping on the trundle bed. We have found this to actually be the cheapest option for a family of 5. This is such a wonderful hotel, i hope you enjoy your stay!
The Cabins in Fort Wilderness are wonderful!!!! We have stayed there many times one with a group of 7 ( one was in a pack n play) we also had a person in a wheel chair with us. The handicapped room was perfect! Plenty of space and a great atmosphere! Trails End Buffet for breakfast and dinner is fabulous! What a “Magical” place.
